Hi. I'm Fr. Cassian Sibley, a Russian Orthodox priest living in Bryan. Two years ago I was the first person to write a review of the Cox Family farm. I liked it then - and I love it now. After being a customer for a year and a half, purchasing a cow share, buying half a cow for pasture fed beef, and utilizing Cathy's long arm quilting services - I thought that this family farm had the potential to become a truly great operation. After a little soul searching, I volunteered my services as a ranch hand and quilting assistant - and now I am an employee and an almost full-time helper at the farm. The studio has been expanded and there are now 32 satisfied weekly customers. Come out and visit the farm, say hello, and get your name put on the waiting list. As I say, I am paid a little to work here now, but I remain a satisfied customer too! Cathy Cox and I are both obsessive on the subject of sustainable and chemical-free practices. If you want really, really clean, chemical-free beef and professionally finished quilts - this farm would be a good choice.
This is a family farm struggling at times but very interested in doing things right for her animals, the land, and her quilting clients. The farm uses chemical-free farming practices and pasture/grass feeding for animals. She has a rather innovative "cow share" program that I really like, and her long arm quilting production is top-tier. Ms. Cox is charming - she will be the first to tell you that she doesn't know everything, and that she's learning, but isn't that precisely the kind of operation we should get behind - someone who went into farming and craft because she loves it and wants to do right by the animals, the land, and the artistry?
I've known Cathy and her family for several years now. She listed on Local Harvest and I called to ask her about her farm very soon afterward. It was Leonard's granddad's farm and was at that time their dream of a different kind of life. They moved from Houston and through trial and error, they have created by hand a working farm. I doubt I could list everything I have obtained through the years--custom quilts, beef, soap, and long arm quilting. Cathy runs her business with fair prices and honesty.
I have been doing business with this farm for a year now and absolutely LOVE THEM. The long arm quilting is always super precise and looks beautiful..The studio is rambling, and inviting. You are welcomed with open arms at this farm. Cathy is eager to learn new practices all of the time, and she and Leonard are very community oriented. I cant rate this farm high enough to give them what they deserve.
